Olasewa Olalere Confident, as Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Championship tees off Friday.

Some of the best talents in the Nigeria Junior golf Cadre arrived in Lagos City Thursday ahead of the 8th Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Championship  tournament. The annual golf event is one of the few junior golf events in the country, to be endorsed by the R&A and also one of the  junior championship’s to be listed on the Official World Golf Rankings. After KGI laid down the framework for junior golf in Nigeria to be institutionalised and also internationalized and showed the way of how and the importance of the rankings to develop amateur golf leading to successful professional golfing career.

 

 

 

The 54 hole event according to the organizers will have players in the ages of 14 – 17 years play 36 holes on October 22nd and a final 18 holes on the 23rd of October. Being a Junior World Ranking Event, the tournament is geared towards the improvment of players between the age-grade of 9, 10-12, 13-15 and 16-17 categories for boys and girls.

 

 

 

Speaking to 9jagolf.com.ng Olasewa Olalere of Rosani Golf Club Ekiti, who has represented the country on the international Junior level, multiple times  said he is prepared and ready for the challenge.

 

 

 

I am ready for the challenge and I’ve put in a lot of hard work preparing for this event” “I’d put in my best efforts as I hope for the best results in the tournament” Olalere said.

 

 

 

While Thursday has been set aside as the official practice day, Friday and Saturday will witness full golf actions where junior players take to the lush course in different age grade categories vying for honours.

 

 

 

Ikeja Golf Club has consistently played host to this junior cadet championship for eight consecutive years and sponsored by a golf enthusiast, Awa Ibrahim, who is now the president of the host club.

 

Other youngsters expected to be part of the field  are  Osiregbeme Egbakhumeh, Asaolu Adebayo also from Rosani Golf club, Godwin Okoko of David Mark Golf Academy, and home based player Destiny Oyero
