After a two-year breath space, golfing actions will return back to Gabon, as the 37th edition of the prestigious Libreville Open Golf Championship tees off today. The 37th edition will take place from June 2 to 6, in Libreville, at Golf Club du Mindoube.

The tournament which is one of the most sort after golf tournaments in sub-Saharan Africa, has pulled more and more fans over the years, as well as a large number of African professionals from different parts of Africa and beyond. This mixed open, placed under the sign of male/female parity, today enjoys real pan-African wild acceptance and brings together passionate amateurs and professionals from all African countries.

According to the organizers over 200 participants are expected on the “Greens” of the Golf Club du Libreville, for the 37th edition which promises to be rich in golfing experiences on the national and continental level. Similarly, the development of this sport in Gabon could sustainably contribute to consolidating economic and tourist potential of the country, following the example of what has fine-tuned Morocco’s sports tourism sector in recent years or even in Côte d’Ivoire where golf has been able to impose as a vector of development.

In light of this, the organizers announced that twenty partner companies based in Gabon have greatly thrown their weights behind this event to making this tournament a success, a sign of a palpable enthusiasm for this sport which highlights values as essential as self-control and respect for others. The 37th edition of the Libreville Open Golf Championship thus stands out as a true Pan-African edition combining business and sport,  the organizers enthused. “This edition also marks the resumption of major sports competitions at the national level after two years of absence due to the global pandemic of Covid-19“, they concluded.

Bringing together more than 150 members, the Libreville Golf Club was created in 1964. It aims to promote golf in Gabon in order to encourage as many people as possible to practice a regular sporting activity in an idyllic setting, located in the center of Libreville. .

Amongst notable players headlining the event is Nigeria’s Sunday Olapade coming off a fresh and strong top 5 finish at the recently concluded Cote d’ivore Open last month, seeking to win his first international event this season.

I feel very calm and confident ahead of this event. No doubt, the golf course is in good shape from the few practice rounds I’ve had here and I will definitely be giving it my best shot over the next few days.” 33 year old Olapade told in a chat.

Olapade’s  Lebreville Open campaign is strongly backed by (Kawai Technologies Ltd) a full service supply-chain, procurement and logistics company in Nigeria, which has apparently boosted his confidence ahead of the tournament. Although, he did not reveal the type or conditions of the sponsorship to our correspondent.

“Thanks to Kawai Technologies Ltd for their support and backing to this event it is a major landmark for my golfing career and I hope this last longer” he maintained.

Other big names slugging it out at the 2022 Libreville Open Golf Championship include west Africa’s golfing giant Vincent Togarh, Kenya’s Robson Chinoi, Cameroon’s Pristhy FON Nji, Samba Niang of Senegal and many others.
